Organizations rely upon many different variables that determine how it performs. I-O psychology is the applied science that is focused on the people variables impacting the organization, from the initial human capital planning through the entire employment relationship.
The relationship between I-O psycholgy and human resources. Industrial-organizational psychologists and human resources managers both deal with people in the workplace. In some cases, such as making hiuring recommendations and being involved in pre-employment testing, their work may overlap. In others, such as process reengineering and scientific research, they differ.
Industrial-organizational psychologists, or I-O psychologists, apply psychology principles to the workplace such as workplace productivity, morale, employee screening, organizational development, pre-employment testing, providing team-building activities, executive coaching, or conducting climate and culture surveys.

Human resources professionals plan, direct, and coordinates an organization's employee related functions such as recruiting, interviewing and hiring new staff, compensation, benefits, payroll, and handling staff issues related to disputes, disciplinary procedures or employee terminations.

The simplest way to describe the main difference between the two is that I/O psychologists study the employee behavior to determine what benefits will make them as satisfied and productive as possible, whereas, human resources managers have the task of putting together, implementing and providing the benefits and packages to the employees.
