NOTICE OF POSITION OPENING: ASSISTANT CLINICAL DIRECTOR
The Assistant Clinical Director collaborates and works closely with the Clinical Director in planning, carrying out and evaluating all clinical services. The Assistant Clinical Director will help the Clinical Director manage the clinical operations of SCCC and maintain a clinical environment conducive to the delivery of high-quality, culturally sensitive community counseling services along with superior counselor training that values social justice, diversity, inclusion, equity, personal growth, and effective communication. The Assistant Clinical Director will work with the Clinical Director to ensure proper care and training is being provided in accordance with regulatory requirements and clinical benchmarks. The Assistant Clinical Director reports to the Clinical Director.
This position is full-time, Monday through Friday, and is exempt.

Founded in 1966, the Southern California Counseling Center (SCCC) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that low-income families and individuals can access high-quality, low-cost mental health services. It is our mission to offer culturally sensitive psychological counseling to those of limited income who often cannot afford or access mental health services; to develop and maintain programs that respond to the ever-changing psychological needs of our multicultural community; and to provide exceptional counselor training within a supportive environment.
This position is full-time, Monday through Friday, and is exempt.
Areas of clinical and programmatic responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supervise Client Coordinator, including job development and evaluation
- Supervise Front Desk Staff, including job development and evaluation
- Assist the Training Program Director
- plans and coordinates trainings and workshops
- teaches in the Clinical Skills courses for new counselors
- Organize materials for twice-yearly new counselor orientations, including facilitating background checks on new counselors
- Organize, attend, and co-lead general, family, and new counselor supervisor meetings
- Manage CE’s in continuing education trainings, including, recruiting for, organizing and facilitating trainings, and distributing CE certificates to licensed attendees
- Assist Clinical Director in recruiting and interviewing supervisors
- Assist Clinical Director in interviewing training applicants
- Assist Clinical Director in creating and organizing supervision groups
- Review intakes daily and follow-up on crisis situations
- Handle administrative functions relating to the negotiation and coordination of contracts with graduate schools regarding counselor training
- Provide supervision to counselors as needed
- Coordinate “buddy system” for incoming counselors
- Review and updates Counselor Handbook
- Act as designated liaison with Center legal counsel to process legal issues, including subpoenas
- Provide crisis support to counselors during and after business hours
- Work with counselors and supervisors on client issues requiring additional supervision/feedback
- Work with Advancement and Communication Department
- Organize Transition Workshops for departing counselors
- Attend weekly staff meetings, clinical staff meetings and Front Desk Supervision meetings
- Attend SCCC Committee meetings when necessary
- Attend external clinical meetings
- Participate with Clinical Director in planning and coordinating periodic enrichment seminars and workshops by major presenters
- Attend school recruitment activities promoting SCCC’s mission and Social Justice commitment
- Participate in new business opportunities
- Organize Center representation in community outreach activities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must be highly motivated and a self-starter
- Must be able to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with and relate to a diverse group of people including clients, supervisors, counselors, staff, board and donors
- Must have excellent administrative and organizational skills
- Must be comfortable working online via different video conferencing platforms
- Must be confident working in high-pressured situations
- Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise professional and para-professional staff while handling multiple tasks and relating with diverse groups
- Must possess a solid grasp of major theoretical modalities of psychotherapy
Experience
- Minimum two years licensure as an LMFT, LCSW, or Psy.D. in the state of California
- Two-years minimum Clinical Manager experience
- Three-years minimum verifiable management or supervisory experience
- Prior experience working in a community mental health environment preferred
